Well, after hosting a site with Freeservers for over five years, I just received a letter from them announcing that I'd violated their terms of service. Apparently I have content or links to "obscene, pornographic content and/or *foul language*". So yes, stuff that can appear in a PG-13 film can't appear on Freeservers, apparently.
Since 95% of my writing is available on mainstream websites and from Amazon, I wasn't sure what the problem was, and they unfortunately were not specific in their email. Two links, one of which is for my erotica short story, lead to sites that have XXX content somewhere on them. I am assuming those are the offenders but have no way of knowing. I've removed the links and hopefully my site won't disappear in two days as threatened.
I guess it's nice that they issued a warning before disbanding my site, but it's still very upsetting. I've started looking for alternate sites, and it's not easy finding webhosts that don't have a big NO attached to any sort of "obscene" material (and who knows whose standards they're going by?) Two that look promising are LunarPages and HostGator.
Moving five years of pages and photos is not going to be fun--that is, if I get the chance to move them!
ETA: The thing that's really upsetting is that Freeservers does not monitor the content, so that means someone reported me to them. Any links I had to adult content sites were clearly labeled, so it's not as if I was trying to lure unsuspecting people to adult sites.
